Barnsley FC Community Trust welcomed back Show Racism the Red Card to Oakwell on the 19th March, hosting another powerful anti‑racism education workshop for local primary school pupils. The event highlighted the importance of challenging discrimination and promoting equality within schools, sport, and the wider community.
The workshop guided young people through discussions on stereotypes, discrimination, and how to take action to ‘show racism the red card’. As one of the UK’s leading anti‑racism education charities, the organisation continues to work closely with Barnsley FC Community Trust to deliver impactful sessions across the borough.
Adding further significance to the event, Minister for Sport, Tourism, Civil Society and Youth, and Barnsley MP Stephanie Peacock, attended to see the initiative in action. Her visit underscored the governments and the local community’s commitment to tackling racism and supporting inclusive programmes for young people.
Speaking about the partnership, representatives from Show Racism the Red Card and Barnsley FC Community Trust emphasised the continued need for early education, open conversation, and community involvement in combating discrimination.

To round off the day, pupils took part in a lively Q&A session with Barnsley FC first‑team players Vimal Yoganathan, Reyes Cleary, and Nathanael Ogbeta. The players shared their experiences within football, discussed the importance of equality in sport, and encouraged young attendees to speak out against racism.
The event marked another milestone in Barnsley FC Community Trust’s ongoing efforts to use the power of football to inspire positive social change.
