This year, 2017, marks 130 years since Barnsley Football Club was formed in 1887.
Reds in the Community is celebrating this landmark anniversary by involving supporters and the wider community in exploring and telling the story of Barnsley FC and Oakwell.
Through the ‘Our Club, Our Ground, Our Past, Our Future’ project, which is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the South West Yorkshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust’s Creative Minds initiative, new heritage displays are being developed for Oakwell, focusing on key events in Barnsley FC’s history from 1887 to the present day.
Volunteers involved in the project have been interviewing former Reds players about their Barnsley FC memories, and the part they have each played in the wider club story. Volunteers were thrilled to interview club legend, Ronnie Glavin, recently. Watch the video now to hear some of Ronnie’s fondest memories of his time at Oakwell!
Reds in the Community is currently seeking Reds fans’ memories and pictures from this era. We want to hear your stories, and see your photos from these special days!
