Corey Roebuck Takes on the 2019 London Marathon!

Reds in the Community NCS Wave Leader and Barnsley FC Academy Coach Corey Roebuck is going to don his running shoes in aid of Leukaemia UK!

Corey will be participating in the 2019 London Marathon to raise money for Leukaemia UK and has the full support of everyone at Reds in the Community and Barnsley Football Club!

Leukaemia UK is a charity very close to Corey’s and his family’s hearts after his sister lost her battle with Leukemia at a very young age, leaving his family devastated.

Corey will be running the Marathon not only in his sister’s memory but also to raise awareness for the charity and raise funds to support the fantastic work of Leukaemia UK.

Leukaemia was first discovered in 1977, it is a blood cancer disease which affects over 34,000 people each year.

He has set a target of raising £1500 for the charity.

Already a keen sportsman, Corey has begun training ahead of taking on the world-famous race on 28th April.

He spoke to Reds in the Community about what it will mean to run in his sister’s memory and to support Leukaemia UK.

Corey said: “I’m really excited. It’s a charity that is very close to my heart and my family’s heart. It’s a challenge but I’m looking forward to it. I’ve just started training for it. I’m excited but a little bit nervous because 26 miles is a long way!

“My sister passed away when she was young. It was quite a few years ago now but it’s still close to my heart. I’ve set myself the target of £1500 but it’s also to raise awareness as well. Hopefully they’ll find a cure one day. It is to raise awareness and run in her memory – I think it could be quite emotional towards the end because I am doing it for her. If I can create 1% more awareness then it’d be good for myself and more importantly for the charity. It’s not about me, it’s about people who are going through different things with family and leukaemia.”
