Black History Month

Time For Change. Action Not Words.

Saturday 1st October 2022 – Monday 31st October 2022

October marks Black History Month across the United Kingdom. An annual observance originating in the United States, it began as a way of remembering important people and events in history of the African Diaspora.

It was first launched in London in the 1980’s where the aim was to challenge racism and educate themselves and others about the British History that was not taught in schools.

Here at Reds in the Community we will be celebrating in various different ways throughout the month. Our Education students will have black history lessons incorporated into their timetables, we will be looking at extraordinary black athletes throughout our Sports Participation sessions.

We have also teamed up with Show Racism the Red Card to host an event on the 4th October, where local schools have been invited to take part in educational activities, Q&As with Barnsley FC players and more.

Follow us on social media to see what we get up to throughout the month.
