RITC partners with Show Racism the Red Card.
On Tuesday 4th October Show Racism the Red Card joined us in the Legends Suite in Oakwell Stadium to deliver their ever important campaign on Anti-Racism.
Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. Primary schools from across Barnsley were invited to join us to take part in the half day session with the charity which has now been running for 26 years.
Education of young people and adults, SRtRC produces educational resources, to challenge misconceptions, stereotypes and negative attitudes in society.
Their educational films, feature a range of professional football players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Kane, Jill Scott, Dele Alli, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Demi Stokes, Jordan Pickford, , Harry Maguire, & Eni Aluko, alongside England manager Gareth Southgate. The film addresses a range of issues surrounding racism and help teachers and other training professionals to deliver training in their schools and workplaces.
A panel formed for the final part of the programme this included, Jordan Helliwell and Charlie Winfield from Barnsley FC, Georgina Wilson-Roberts and Jenna Bramley from Barnsley FC Ladies and Charlotte who has recently signed for Newcastle Ladies.
Students from Summer Lane and Queens road were able to ask questions about racism to the panel, prizes were given out the the most engaging questions and the students were given the opportunity to have merchandise signed by the panel. Miss Hattersley from Summer Lane Primary added ” It’s been great to see the students engage with the programme and it has been really interesting hear all the different stories, we would definitely attend future events”
We are thankful for our partnership with Show Racism the Red Card and look forward to working with them in the future to help deliver their ever important message to Show Racism the Red Card.
