Burrows generous donation brings Fun in the Sun this Summer.
Our Summer Sports Van is in full swing thanks to the generous donation from Burrows Toyota of Barnsley.
We love to bring summer Fun to all throughout the summer and with this year being the first without any Covid-19 Restrictions we wanted to make it bigger and better than ever!
Our Summer Sports Van is funded by Local Area Councils including Barnsley North and South, Monk Bretton Ward Alliance, North East Ward Alliance & Cudworth Ward Alliance. The Van promotes physical activity for children throughout the summer giving them the opportunity to take part in multi-sport activities.
Burrows Motor Company, funded the fully electric Van entirely for 5 weeks of Summer Fun. This significant donation means we are able to deliver this initiative knowing we have a reliable van to get us from area to area.
“Burrows Motor Company and Barnsley FC are both dedicated to supporting the local Barnsley community.. Together we have run a number of initiatives including Ride with a Red which recognises local Barnsley heroes. Now with this ‘Summer Sports’ initiative, Burrows were delighted to be asked to support the work of Reds in the Community in using the power of football to engage with young people and encourage them to get active during the summer months. Long may this initiative continue.”
Steve Davidson, Regional Director, Burrows Motor Company
Our Sports Van initiative is aimed at enabling children and young people from across Barnsley to get active and stay connected during the summer holidays. Our qualified, experienced coaches are visiting local parks and green spaces in the fully equipped sports van to deliver drop-in multi sports sessions. Participants have the opportunity to experience different sports including football, cricket, rounders, badminton and spike ball.
The sessions are open to all children and young people in Barnsley. Sessions take place in parks and green spaces across all Local Areas in Barnsley to ensure there is parity of opportunity for all children and young people. We have targeted a combination of popular local spaces with high footfall and community based green spaces frequented by families and young people. Participants just turn up, take part, get active and have fun.
Head of Participation and Health, Kieron Campbell added: We are so grateful for the team at burrows and for their ongoing support. Having donated the van for us to use this summer, their generosity has enabled us to deliver high quality multi-sport activities to hundreds of young people across Barnsley, giving them the opportunity to be active and connect with friends in a safe environment.
To add to this, not only are we delivering this fantastic project, the van that has been donated is fully electric so we are being friendly to the environment as well. This is another step forward that contributes to our long term goals around environmental sustainability.
