FA Girls’ Football Week!
The Football Association’s Girls’ Football Week is a national campaign aimed at raising the profile of female football and aims to double the number of women and girls playing football by 2020.
In 2016, over 130,000 girls took part in sessions delivered within schools, universities, colleges, clubs, community groups and other organisations across the country.
During FA Girls’ Football Week the whole country gears up to encourage football activities for girls which can including playing, training or even just learning more about the beautiful game.
All of the activities running throughout the course of the week are in line with FA guidelines and are fun for all taking part, ensuring they get the most out of every session on offer.
In support of Girls’ Football Week, Reds in the Community will be showcasing the work that we do on a regular basis to keep women and girls involved in sport.
The week will begin with our after school football coaching sessions at Outwood Academy Shafton, with further school sessions taking place at Horizon, Penistone, Ossett, Kirk Balk and Castleford throughout the week.
We will also be holding a School Sports Festival on Wednesday at Oakwell, with primary schools from the Barnsley area coming together to take part in a range of sports and activities at Barnsley Football Club.
Thursday sees the return of Soccercise following a one week break due to the half term school holidays in Barnsley.
Running from 5:30pm – 6:15pm, it’s your chance to take part in a range of different fitness and exercise drills in a relaxed environment, costing just £1 per session.
That is set to be followed by the return of our incredibly popular UV Football sessions at Barnsley Academy from 7pm!
For just £2 per person, you can experience football in a whole new light (literally) and take to the pitch for a glow in the dark football experience like no other! You can see more of our UV Football on our Facebook Page.
On Friday, we will be hosting our first EFL Girls Cup tournament of the season, bringing together girls teams from across the Barnsley area to play a tournament at Oakwell.
Stay tuned to our website and social media channels for more information on upcoming events throughout the week!
