Barnsley FC Community Trust to host EFL Utilita Girls Cup
We are delighted to have been chosen by the EFL to host the EFL Utilita Girls cup this October.
The Utilita Kids and Girls Cups are national tournaments for junior footballers which offers children the once in a lifetime opportunity to play at Wembley Stadium should they reach the final. The annual football competition sees around 20,000 boys and girls each year take to the pitch to represent the 72 EFL Clubs across England and Wales, bolstering the existing ties between Clubs and their local communities.
The competition creates one of the country’s largest national football competitions, which culminate in exciting finals at Wembley Stadium in front of thousands of fans before a major national final, as schoolchildren live out their dream.
The cup held on the outdoor 4G pitch here at Oakwell will see 15 teams compete in order to represent Barnsley FC at the Regional Finals later in the season.
Barnsley FC Community Trust Inclusion Officer Lynn Goodman said, ‘It is a pleasure to host the Utilita Girls cup for girl’s school teams in Barnsley. It is a great opportunity to showcase the talent within girls’ football and makes a great stepping stone for girls wanting to pursue a career in football or the sports industry. It is also a fantastic opportunity to show the great facilities we have here at Oakwell’
Head of Participation and Inclusion, James Cooke added “We are delighted to host the Launch event for the EFL Girls cup at Oakwell. We believe strongly in encouraging and promoting girls’ participation in football and this is a great initiative to help achieve that. There will be some fantastic football on display and our team is looking forward to welcoming the participants. We are excited to play our part in what promises to be a fantastic event.”
We look forward to welcoming the teams at Oakwell on the Thursday the 19th of October 2023. And wish them all the best of Luck.
