Fit Reds is an ‘Award Winning’ eight-week healthy lifestyle programme delivered by Reds in the Community for inactive adults over the age of 30 years.
Through the influence of football and Barnsley Football Club, Fit Reds supports men to make positive lifestyle changes and become more physically active, as well as increasing their knowledge and skills in relation to leading healthy lifestyles.
In 2019, RitC introduced Fit Reds Ladies for the first time, enabling women in the borough of Barnsley to improve their diet and general fitness too.
The programme consists of a series of two-hour workshops. In the first half of each workshop, RitC staff provide participants with information regarding diet, nutrition and healthy lifestyles.
They also provide participants with one-to-one support in relation to keeping food diaries to help them achieve individual goals and lifestyle changes.
Participants’ health measurements are taken at the beginning, middle and end of the programme to monitor individual progress throughout and to act as a motivator.
In the second half of each weekly workshop, qualified coaches (Level 3 minimum) deliver physical activity. The coaches deliver a progressively challenging activity programme consisting of warm-ups, circuit training, strength & conditioning work and a cool down.
Sessions can be personalised and alternative activities created where necessary to respond to individuals with diverse physical activity needs and abilities. The style of the programme encourages team spirit and past participants have expressed their appreciation at being a part of an inclusive and successful programme.
