Barnsley FC Community Trust receive grant from Barnsley CVS in order to support Take Action, Live Longer Scheme

We are delighted to announce a successful bid in order to support the Take Action, Live Longer Scheme for early Cancer screening working in partnership with NHS South Yorkshire ICB, Barnsley Council and Barnsley CVS on behalf of South Yorkshire Cancer Alliance.

The funding will help address health inequalities and support timely presentation of signs and symptoms of cancer. We plan to utilise funding to run a series of events which will help raise cancer awareness amongst people in our most deprived areas of Barnsley and to spot cancer sooner, helping save more lives. We will deliver this using national awareness information and marketing whilst utilising our own personality and use of sport to drive the message forward.

Barnsley FC Community Trust’s Head of Health and Wellbeing Sean Margison said, ‘Unfortunately, one in two of us will have to deal with cancer in our lifetime, we stress the importance of cancer awareness within our Fit Reds session and are keen to spread awareness to the wider Barnsley Community, we would like to thank our partners in providing the funding in order for us to achieve this and support the Take Action, Live Longer Scheme.

Funding will see information and important sessions being shared to existing participants, staff and include first team involvement and match day takeovers in the new season.

If you are worried about symptoms, you can seek help by visiting your GP. Signs and symptoms are more often caused by something less serious than cancer – but if it is cancer, spotting it early can make a real difference.
