Shadow Scholarship | Rhys Wilson is headed to America
Another Reds in the Community student is heading to America later this year, Rhys Wilson has secured a scholarship with St. Charles Community College, Missouri. After arriving with us 2 years ago, Rhys had only played grassroots level football and has pushed himself and developed greatly over the last two years. Â
Alongside his obvious footballing talent, Rhys has been a credit to himself in the classroom, often, Rhys would have any task finished by the end of the day and be asking his tutors for more work. Rhys’ hard work has allowed him to get a scholarship in a very highly regarded American College. Rhys has worked very hard to make sure he achieved the best possible grades he could, and all of his hard work has now been rewarded.
Last year, Rhys played a vital part helping Mark Tinker’s U19 squad to the final of the National Football Youth League cup competition in their inaugural season, This season has been much of the same, with Rhys featuring heavily for the U19 squad and playing a pivotal role in their success.
Rhys said ‘’When I first joined Reds in the Community, I was not sure if my football skills were good enough compared to everybody else there. It was very stressful to begin with. But after getting settled in, all of the coaches and staff helped me grow as a person and a footballer to who I am now’’ testament to Rhys’ humbleness and willingness to improve. Â
My next step is going out to America and getting a degree but mainly climb the football leagues over there and see how far I can truly get. I have improved my football skills extremely well over the last 2 years, thanks to all the coaches. My favourite experience whilst at Reds in the Community was training with the youth team, an opportunity not many young footballers get’.Â
I would like to thank all of the tutors and coaches at Reds in the Community for all their support over the last 2 years, I have loved it!
Everyone here at Reds in the Community wishes Rhys all the best in the next steps in his education and footballing journey. Â
