Barnsley FC Host ‘Building Foundations’ Football Fund Launch Event this EFL Week of Action
We were honoured to be chosen as the hosts to help launch the ‘Building Foundations’ Fund this EFL Week of Action.
We were joined at Oakwell’s Indoor Training Centre by EFL Chairman Rick Parry, Title Partners Sky Bet and former Liverpool, Leicester and England star Emile Heskey as well as multiple media outlets.
The Building Foundations Fund represents the largest multi-year sponsor-backed fund dedicated solely to community activity and will give the 72 EFL clubs a chance to bid for grants of up to £100,000 to invest in ongoing programmes or to develop new initiatives.
To mark the start of the Building Foundations Fund, Club Community Organisations (CCOs) at each of the 72 EFL Clubs will have the opportunity to spend an initial £10,000 grant.
Today, five Walking Football teams we invited to join us and took part in a tournament to help showcase the work CCO’s like Barnsley FC Community Trust do throughout their communities. The initial £10,000 grant will help grow sessions like Walking Football which is a programme designed to help both male and female players who are 50+ to get active and help combat social isolation.
Head of Foundation at Barnsley FC Community Trust, Kieron Campbell said ‘We were delighted to be the chosen hosts of such a fantastic launch event, the Building Foundations Fund is a great initiative of support for CCO’s like us to help continually change the lives of our community in a positive way’.
Today’s launch took place during the EFL’s annual Week of Action which is a period where all 72 EFL members unite to showcase the impact that clubs have in their communities as a collective.
We would like to thank The EFL and Sky Bet for selecting us to be the chosen hosts.
