Show Racism the Red Card

On Wednesday 16th October, Barnsley FC Community Trust welcomed the charity Show Racism the Red Card to deliver their ever-important campaign on Anti-Racism.

Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) is the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity. It was established in January 1996, thanks in part to a donation by then Newcastle United goalkeeper Shaka Hislop. Primary schools from across Barnsley were invited to join us to take part in the half day session with the charity which has now been running for 26 years.

Education of young people and adults, SRtRC produces educational resources, to challenge misconceptions, stereotypes, and negative attitudes in society.

Students from Burton Road, Queens Road, Holy Rood and Summer Lane joined us for an afternoon of educational practices to help stop discrimination in the game. The students were also joined by Barnsley FC defender Donovan Pines, midfielder Vimal Yoganathan, Under 18s Robson Woodcock, Kalaab Daniel and Barnsley FC alumni Kayode Odejayi. The players took part in a Q&A, shared their experiences, posed for photos and signed lots of autographs. Two lucky students were chosen as winners for their engagement throughout the afternoon one going home with a voucher for signed shirt and the other a signed ball.

Barnsley FC Community Trust’s Premier League Primary Stars Officer, Macauley Hobson said: â€˜It’s always a pleasure to have Show Racism the Red Card with us and we’d like to extend our thanks to Richard and Dave for their time this afternoon. The educational workshop gives the children the opportunity to learn about an important topic in a fun and inclusive way. We’d also like to thank Donovan, Vimal, Kayode, Kalaab and Robson for taking the time to come and share their experiences.

We are thankful for our partnership with Show Racism the Red Card and look forward to working with them in the future to help deliver their ever-important message to Show Racism the Red Card.
