Barnsley FC Community Trust support ICON Week with the help from Reds players.

ICON week is taking place 23rd – 27th September 2024

ICON is a programme adopted by health and social care organisations in the UK to provide information about infant crying, including how to cope, support parents/carers to reduce stress and to prevent injuries caused by Abusive Head Trauma, often resulting from shaking the baby. This year’s ICON Week is once again focusing on sharing ideas and best practices.

Senior Public Health Practitioner Dr Amy Baxter and Specialist Nurse Safeguarding Children Sharon Tyne said: “NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (NHS SYICB) and Barnsley Council’s Public Health team are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Barnsley Football Club and Barnsley FC Community Trust, to raise awareness of ICON.”

“Barnsley Football Club has a broad and diverse fan base that spans different age groups, genders, and socioeconomic backgrounds; the Club also has strong community ties and is a trusted and influential institution. Having the players involved in delivering the ICON message – babies cry, you can cope – will therefore enhance the impact of the campaign across the Borough and help promote better outcomes for local families.”

Amy Milne of Barnsley FC Community Trust said: “It has been a privilege to work with Sharon and Amy to be able to support such a meaningful cause. I would like to extend our thanks to Barnsley FC players Corey, Kyran, Georgie and Aidan for taking part. We hope that this makes a real impact in supporting the campaign throughout the borough and the wider community.”
