Barnsley FC Community Trust Generates £16.1 Million in Social Value, Highlighting Its Impact on the Barnsley Community.

Barnsley FC Community Trust has revealed a remarkable £16,161,060 in social value, underlining its significant contributions to the town and its residents. This substantial figure demonstrates the far-reaching effects of the Trust’s work, proving that football is about so much more than just the game. The Trust’s tireless efforts are helping to create a stronger, healthier, and more connected community in Barnsley.

While the football pitch may be the focal point of Barnsley FC, the work of its Community Trust goes far beyond the game. Football clubs play a critical role in their local areas, not only through the sport itself but also by acting as vital hubs for community support and engagement. From promoting physical and mental well-being to improving social cohesion, educational advancement, and economic opportunities, Barnsley FC Community Trust’s initiatives are making a profound impact on the lives of local residents.

According to the latest figures, the Trust’s programmes have generated significant social value across several key areas:

• Physical Health: £1,353,169

• Mental Health: £10,413,520

• Social Impact: £2,512,619

• Education & Employability: £1,881,752

The Trust’s work serves as a testament to the power of sport in addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing society today. As more than 49 million people live within 15 miles of an EFL club, it is clear that the influence of football clubs extends well beyond the stadium, touching nearly every aspect of life in their communities.

A Stronger, Healthier Society

Barnsley FC Community Trust’s initiatives cover a broad spectrum of services, including health and wellness programs, educational outreach, social inclusion activities, and employability support. These efforts are designed not only to improve the lives of individuals but to foster a deeper sense of community and belonging.

Chief Executive Officer, Kieron Campbell, Barnsley FC Community Trust said

“Football has the power to unite people and transform communities. The impact of Barnsley FC Community Trust demonstrates that the club is not only shaping the future of football but is also actively shaping the future of Barnsley itself.”

Chief Executive Jon Flatman, Barnsley Football Club said “At Barnsley FC, we understand that our responsibility goes far beyond the pitch. We are incredibly proud of the positive difference the Trust make in the lives of local people. These numbers are not just figures – they represent real lives improved, health outcomes enhanced, and opportunities created. We are committed to continuing this vital work for years to come.”

Sir Steve Houghton, Leader of Barnsley Council said, “The people at Barnsley FC Community Trust are routed in our communities. They talk to the people in our communities, they ask what they need. The work they do is hugely important, if we look that the fact that almost 15,000 people benefited from the work of the Trust last year and they created £16m worth of social value in Barnsley, you could not get that at any price in any other organisation. They are adding to the local community, they are adding to the local economy, and they are building good relationships. At a time when we talk about community cohesion, these kinds of organisations are vital to making sure that happens.  A well done must go to everyone involved.
