Course overview
The curriculum is designed to provide learners with a solid foundation in the sports sector, preparing them for careers in sport, leisure, or fitness.
Students will study three core units: Participating in Sport, Sports Coaching, and Introduction to Healthy Exercise and Nutrition. These units provide comprehensive coverage of the sport and fitness sector and develop an understanding of the human body and its functions, whilst developing knowledge around coaching in sport.
Participating in Sport allows students to engage in practical sports activities with an emphasis on the different rules and regulations in various sports. Sports Coaching gives learners the opportunity to collaborate with their peers to plan and deliver coaching sessions, gaining hands-on experience, with the support of expert coaches for guidance. Introduction to Healthy Exercise and Nutrition unit is enhanced by guest speaker sessions from our strength and conditioning coach. Students gain insights into the role of nutritionists and conditioning coaches working with elite athletes, bridging theory and real-world practice.
The optional unit Technical and Tactical Awareness builds on the more in-depth knowledge of coaching in specific sports, looking at different technical and tactical attributes.
