Ward Green Primary School will represent Barnsley Football Club in the March area finals after becoming EFL Kids Cup champions earlier today.
Over 30 local schools have competed in the KS2 Barnsley Kids Cup, with the winners from three qualifying tournaments progressing into this afternoon’s finals at Oakwell.
Worsbrough school Ward Green came out as winners in a finals day which was played at a very high standard.
Holy Trinity Primary from Ossett finished as runners-up with Wakefield-based Dane Royd Junior & Infants School coming third.
Each of the teams played each other twice, with the tournament being decided by a league table after the fixtures.
Ward Green won the tournament in style, running out victors in all four games against the other finalists without conceding a single goal.
They will now don the Barnsley FC jersey and face off against teams representing other professional football clubs in March’s area finals.
Should they progress from the area finals, which will be held at Club Doncaster Foundation, then there is the opportunity to go to the regional finals and, ultimately, the national finals.
