Barnsley FC footballers Jared Bird and Ryan Hedges visited Kings Oak Primary Learning Centre this afternoon.
Jared and Ryan gave up their time to meet key stage two pupils and take part in a question and answer assembly.
The player visit began with the Reds duo being introduced to two of the school’s biggest Barnsley fans who are current season ticket holders at Oakwell.
They were then led into an assembly with all of the pupils in key stage two.
Selected pupils asked their previously prepared questions to the duo before the floor was opened up to the rest of the children in what was a fun and engaging assembly.
Ryan is no stranger to giving up his time to help support Reds in the Community’s work, with the winger being named the Health Ambassador for the past two seasons.
The 23-year-old explained why taking part in RitC visits are enjoyable for both the players and the children they meet.
He said: “It’s nice to be able to have an assembly like this where the kids can ask some questions and obviously we can answer them. It’s nice for them to get to see Barnsley players. Some of the questions, with them being children, you can always laugh at -‘What’s your favourite Fortnite gun?’ – stuff like that.
“If you look at when you’re doing the press it’s very scheduled, you have to do this and you have to do that. With the kids you can have a bit more fun and a bit of a laugh. It’s always nice to see the kids and see their faces shine bright when you walk through the door.”
