Burton Road Primary School came out on top in a Key Stage One Premier League Primary Stars tournament this afternoon at Oakwell.
The competition brought together seven teams from six different schools who partake in the PL Stars programme with Reds in the Community.
Burton Road, Forest Academy, High View Primary Learning Centre, two teams from Lacewood Primary, Oakhill Primary Academy and Oakwell Rise Primary Academy took part in the competition.
All teams played each other once, with the winner being decided by the league table at the end of six fixtures apiece.
Burton Road won the tournament with 15 points, losing just once in an impressive performance throughout the afternoon.
Lacewood ‘B’ and Oakhill finished in joint-second with 11 points while High View and Lacewood ‘A’ both finished a point further back in joint-third.
Jane Firth, Teaching Assistant at Burton Road, spoke about how enjoyable the tournament was for herself and the pupils.
She said: “They’ve absolutely loved it. It’s been amazing. They’ve got big smiles on their faces and I’ve just told them to go out and enjoy it. I’ve got boys that play football so I’ve really enjoyed it and the kids have been over the moon. To come down to Barnsley and use the facilities here has been amazing. It’s been really good. Thank you very much for having us!”
The Stars tournament was organised by Sports Development Officer Kieron Campbell and refereed by Reds in the Community coaches.
