In the lead up to Christmas Day, we have been looking back at some of the highlights of 2018 through the Reds in the Community 12 days of Christmas.
With just one day to go until the big day, it’s only right to end our countdown with a memorable celebration of our own – the NCS (National Citizen Service) Grad Fest in September.
Hosted at the Barnsley Metrodome, the festival-themed event presented the chance to reflect and celebrate a fantastic Summer with NCS.
A total of 234 young adults graduated from the programme in Summer 2018, with over 250 people attending the graduation party including staff and guests from the EFL and social action projects.
Team leaders led a presentation, talking through the adventure, discovery and social action phases of the programme alongside pictures and videos from each wave.
Each group’s team leaders nominated their ‘star of NCS’ for the individual who shone throughout the three phases.
Three participants also performed live before food was served and a DJ continued the celebrations.
Other activities on the night included a rope ladder inflatable, a surfing simulator, a photo booth and a glitter stand.
NCS is a nationwide programme run for participants aged 16-17, helping them to develop key skills in preparation for adult life whilst making friends and enjoying unique experiences.
After two weeks of residential trips, all of the young adults take part in social action projects across the borough of Barnsley.
Our 2018 graduates completed priceless work at locations such as the Exchange Recovery College, MIND and Owd Martha’s Yard amongst others.
In total, £5,055 was raised across the four waves of participants during the social action phase.
NCS co-ordinator Hannah Philips spoke about the success of the evening and a great summer with the programme.
“It was a fantastic night,” said Hannah. “Everything ran really smoothly and all of the graduates looked like they had a good time. It was great to bring everyone together to celebrate another summer of NCS making a difference, not just to the graduates and staff but also to the local community through our social action projects.
“I’m so proud of all the graduates, we’ve loved working with them throughout every phase of each wave. I’m sure they have made friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. I’d like to say a special well done to everyone who won an award as well.”
