Short Breaks relaunches as RitC return to action!

Following months of frustration and paused front line delivery, Reds in the Community this week is gearing up to a phased return back to normality and all its vital work away from the pitch at Oakwell. It will do so by relaunching its Short Breaks Programme in partnership with Barnsley Council.

The initiative provides disabled children and young people with enjoyable and valuable holiday sporting experiences away from their parents and carers. All delivered in the engaging and exciting environment of a professional football club at Oakwell. In turn, parents and carers will have the well-earned chance to take a break from caring.

Commenting on the development, Reds in the Community Chief Executive Wayne Bullimore, said: “We are thrilled to be kick-starting our face to face work and what better way than through our Short Breaks Programme. Lockdown has been so challenging for all of us in so many different ways, but it has been particularly testing for children and young people with a disability and the parents and carers. We are delighted to be helping with our partners Barnsley Council in a very small way to alleviate some of those stresses. Again, this shines a light on the important role of professional football clubs, through their charity arms, have played both during and will play post-pandemic to address some of the negative fallout of the virus.”
