Reds in the Community’s new Move to Lose sessions have received a great response from participants.
Move to Lose female fitness sessions replaced ‘Soccercise’ less than a month ago however attendance has already dramatically increased for the Thursday evening activity.
The circuit exercises are adapted for differing levels of fitness, with the main aim of the group being to improve the health of local women whilst having fun and meeting new friends.
Gillian Spaxnan has been attending the weekly fitness sessions since 2016 and is a big advocate of the recently re-vamped programmme.
She said: “I run anyway and I thought I might come down and try a different exercise and tone different areas of my body. That was two years ago and I’ve been coming for the last two years. It’s as easy or as hard as you want to make it. If you’ve never done any exercise before it’s really good. You make loads of friends. Don’t worry about anyone being fitter than you or anything because everyone does it to their own ability.”
The Move to Lose programme is organised by Reds in the Community Women and Girls Development Officer Lynn Goodman.
Lynn leads the sessions alongside RITC female community coaches such as Shannon Durkin and Ellie Brightmore.
Ellie explained more about the benefits of the programme and how it is adaptable to the varying fitness levels of participants.
She said: “It’s a programme based around circuit training. We don’t focus on any particular ability or age. We like to get as many people involved as possible. Whether you’ve never exercised before or enjoy doing it as a daily thing, you can just come down and get involved. We can tailor the exercises to your needs. It’s fun, you can bring a friend, you don’t have to do it on your own. There is quite a big social aspect, everyone here is a close-knit group. You’ve also got the staff like myself, Shannon and Lynn so you can meet new people and have fun while you’re doing it.”
Sessions run from 17:30-18:15 every Thursday evening in the East Stand at Oakwell, costing just £1 per week!
