Love talking Sport? Recall your Sporting Memories with Reds in the Community!

Sporting memories last forever. That’s why, Reds in the Community and The Sporting Memories Foundation have collaborated together to launch a new weekly session that supports older sports fans and players living with dementia. The sessions take place every Friday from 11:45 until 13:45 in the Oakwell East Stand.

The group brings together participants by engaging them in social activities and helps them recall memories of watching or playing sport, reawakening their positive thoughts and feelings. Members make new friends, share anecdotes and are encouraged to take part in physical activity.

By staying connected through local communities, members remain cognitively stimulated and physically active. This volunteer-led, intergenerational Sporting Memories group helps people over the age of 50 age well and be as healthy as possible.

The weekly sessions, which are free to attend, rely on volunteers to run and are looking for people to facilitate or support the initiative at Barnsley Football Club.

If you are interested in volunteering at the group, please contact Reds in the Community on 01226 211333 or visit www.thesmf.co.uk for more information.
