Two Barnsley FC Ladies players visited our Move to Lose female fitness session last night.
Right back Emily Ward was joined by striker Isabel Thomas at the Thursday evening initiative in the Oakwell East Stand.
The session adopts a circuit training format with the participants carrying out a range of activities in order to promote losing weight and the toning of muscles.
An initiative with a heavy social influence, Move to Lose also provides a great opportunity to meet like-minded people in a relaxed and supportive environment.
The Reds duo posed for a picture with the participants at last night’s session before joining in for two rounds of the circuit training.
Emily spoke to Reds in the Community about the visit and previewed Sunday’s rematch with Bolton Wanderers Ladies after the Trotters knocked Chris Hamilton’s side out of the FAWNL Cup last weekend.
She said: “I’ve really enjoyed it to be honest. I think it’s a really good idea to get women involved in sport, not just at a young age but when they are adults as well. It’s really good.
“We know what happened last Sunday. We know what we need to improve on and work on. During training we have worked on that. It’s about getting ourselves in the mental state to deal with whatever they throw at us. We’re still a new team and still getting to know each other. Through training and more matches, we’re going to click even more. In pre-season and in the matches we have played there have been some good spells. We’ve just been a bit unfortunate really so it’s definitely onwards and upwards.”
Women & Girls Development Officer Lynn Goodman, who also leads on Move to Lose, was delighted to have the players in attendance at last night’s session.
She said: “It was great to have the Ladies players at Move to Lose. Obviously, we’ve had some of the players at Soccer Camps recently but it was nice for them to see another component of the work we do. I know the participants really enjoyed meeting the players and Emily and Isabel both left with a smile on their face as well. I’m looking forward to getting the Ladies involved in our other female sessions in the future, both for children and adults.”
Move to Lose runs every Thursday evening from 5:30-6:15 in the Oakwell East Stand, costing just £1 per session.
