Shadow Scholarship | Open Trials

Reds in the Community will be hosting open trials for the groundbreaking Shadow Scholarship programme on Saturday 14th November!

The exciting initiative allows players aged 16-19 to develop their footballing ability in the hope of moving into professional football through Barnsley Football Club whilst also studying on RitC’s equally impressive education setup.

Players will train daily in a scheme that has previously developed professional footballers at other clubs around the EFL as well as competing in the National Football Youth League and a national cup.

There is also the opportunity for players to go on football tours, as the U19’s travelled to Barcelona, while students have also trained at St George’s Park and been on a two-week coaching experience to Malta.

Reds in the Community’s Shadow Scholarship Programme, which was launched for the 2018/19 academic year, has already proved to be a success with defenders Callum Walmsley and Dom Claxton making it into the NFYL All-Star National team and Steven Simpson securing a professional contract with Barnsley FC’s Academy

The team will now have the opportunity to play in trial games in front of professional scouts both in the UK and abroad.

Alongside having the chance to be selected for next year’s All-Star team, players will also be able to gain valuable experience through weekly training with the Academy’s U18’s and Martin Devaney’s U23’s.

Multiple youngsters have joined directly from the Barnsley FC Academy and other professional clubs however the coaching staff are keen to find more local talent.

If you are interested in representing the Reds against other football clubs whilst developing off-the-field in a professional education setup, then secure your place on the trials by completing the form at the bottom of the page.
