Reds in the Community are delighted to have secured the signing of three experienced players for the Shadow Scholarship programme.
Ben Marsh joins the initiative directly from the Huddersfield Town Academy, where he was previously the subject of interest from clubs such as Manchester United.
Marsh is joined by Jack Tinker, who was part of the Terriers’ futsal and education programme which became the EFL Northern Futsal League champions and northern cup champions in 2018.
Owen Gladwell has also signed on for the Shadow Scholarship, having previously been with the Chesterfield FC development team and earning trials for the Barnsley U23’s.
All three players will also be studying our new foundation degree in community coaching, delivered in partnership with the University of South Wales.
Head coach Mark Tinker was excited to get the talented trio signed on at Oakwell for the 2018-19 season.
He said: “It is fantastic for the foundation coaching degree students to come onto the Shadow Squad programme. They will bring playing experience at U19 level as well as other qualities from time spent within similar programmes at other professional clubs.
“Whilst training and playing every day, the players will also study a coaching degree and actively build coaching experience working within RITC development centres, teams and community based coaching on a regular basis.
“Ben is still developing physically which is perfect for us as we understand that players grow at different stages. He will now be given further time to achieve within a professional setting. He displays magnificent qualities, his movement and creativity in the final third is one of the best that I have worked with. In the Shadow squad environment, he will be given a fantastic opportunity to improve even more.
“Jack comes through Huddersfield Town Futsal academy and displays excellent technical qualities and a good attitude. Futsal is an excellent development tool for all players to improve and is something that I am looking to integrate into the Shadow Squad programme in some capacity in the future. Both players are examples of how Futsal can bring on your game on as a player both in and out of possession.”
Marsh provides the squad with a creative attacking outlet, with the winger also being able to operate through the middle of the park.
Jack Tinker offers similar versatility while Gladwell will be hoping to be the linchpin of the Shadow Scholarship’s midfield.
RITC have previously announced the signing of four defensive players, all of which come directly from the Barnsley Academy setup.
