The Barnsley FC Shadow Scholars came from 1-0 down to claim another three points in the National Football Youth League thanks to goals from Jake Vigrass, Jack Bennett and Harry Mayo.
Barnsley could’ve taken the lead within the opening minute after Bennett latched onto a long ball from Callum Walmsley but the striker couldn’t direct his lob on target.
Jack Tinker beat three players before releasing Mayo, whose ball across the box was just out of the reach of Bennett.
Tinker and Mayo combined again moments later as the Reds continued to look dangerous, with the latter forcing a fantastic save from the Burnley ‘keeper from inside the box.
With their first real chance of the game, the visitors took the lead as a shot was fired into the bottom corner of Brad Greenfield’s goal.
The Reds were inches away from an instant response as Mayo’s low drive hit the post with the goalkeeper beaten.
Barnsley had to wait until five minutes before the break for a way back into a game which they had dominated as Bennett was brought down from behind in the box before Vigrass slotted the resulting spotkick.
The Reds made the perfect start to the second half as after just three minutes, Tinker played a pinpoint first-time cross into the box and Bennett slid it in to put them in front.
Barnsley’s purple patch continued just over five minutes later as Mayo held his composure to slot past the onrushing ‘keeper and extend the lead.
Tinker saw a header cleared off the line midway through the half before Mayo and Bennett were inches away from combining for another goal.
Bennett could’ve completed a brace late on in what was a professional second-half performance but his left-footed shot was straight at the Burnley ‘keeper.
