Reds in the Community are delighted to confirm that the Malta coaching experience will return for our education students in Spring 2020.
Earlier this year, 26 students on Reds in the Community’s Education programme had a life-changing two-week experience in Malta without having to spend a penny of their own money.
Now, thanks again to funding from the Eramus programme, 30 learners at Oakwell during the 2019/20 academic year will be able to take advantage of the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity through RitC.
Courtesy of Erasmus, the costs of flights, accommodation, food & drink and all travel will be covered while the students will also receive spending money to cover the duration of their stay in Malta.
The unique trip will see the students lead multi-sport sessions for local primary school children as well as working with the youth sides at Luxol St. Andrews, who ply their trade in the Maltese Premier League.
As was the case in 2019, the coaching excursion will be about far more than developing in just a sporting capacity.
In downtime and on weekends, the students will be able to take in some Maltese culture, with last year’s lucky learners visiting the stunning capital city of Valetta, the island of Gozo and Malta’s national stadium to name a few.
Education Officer Mark Crossfield, one of seven supervising staff on the 2019 coaching experience, was delighted to have secured the opportunity for students in 2020.
He said: “It’s brilliant that we are able to return to Malta with a new set of students. Last year was a life-changing experience and it’s fantastic that we can offer a new set of learners the same opportunity.
“It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students. Everyone made the most of the experience last year and hopefully the group in 2020 will go over to Malta with a similar attitude and not just make a difference to their own lives, but also to the lives of the local children who they will be working with too. I already can’t wait to return to Malta in 2020!”
Taking place in Spring 2020, the 15-day experience will be open to all students studying a BTEC or foundation degree at Oakwell.
An application process will begin in September for both existing and new learners, who will submit a written application before an interview and a coaching showcase.
