Community Sports Coach Apprenticeship

The Community Sports Coach Apprenticeship has been developed to give young people the opportunity to enter employment in the sport and active leisure sector via a work based programme. This route provides a range of practical coaching experiences in relation to the community programme and school sport delivery which can assist in the decision making process of what career route individuals would like to pursue. Working with the Reds in the Community team, Apprentices will undertake a wide range of duties relating to the delivery of sports activities at Oakwell and within the Barnsley area.

Course content:

30 hours per week

£99 per week

Entry requirements:

Aged 16 – 18

2 GCSEs at grade C or above in Maths and English

Previous experience in assisting a sports coach desirable but not essential

Assessment methods:

NVQ portfolio building – observations in the workplace, professional discussions, workbooks, assignments

Future opportunities:

Successful candidates may progress to employment with Reds in the Community or another organisation as a sports coach. Candidates may also wish to support the completion of the Apprenticeship with further study.

Further information:

Applicants will be asked to assist in the delivery of a sports coaching session as part of the recruitment process, which will also involve an interview.
