Welcome from CEO

I feel hugely privileged to head up Reds in the Community, a registered charity at Barnsley Football Club – a club that has deep roots within its local community. The club was founded in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy primarily as a way to use sport to engender moral values and forge closer contact with local people. This very ethos lives on today through the work of the charity.

Barnsley Football Club’s community work has continued to broaden and reach out to greater numbers of people. Reds in the Community use the power of Barnsley Football Club as a force for good to improve lives and communities across four key themes; Education, Health, Social Inclusion and Sports Participation. We currently engage with over 1700 people per week through the delivery of over 40 different project. However, a huge amount remains to be achieved. We need to improve the promotion of our work to supporters, funders and participants, and demonstrate the impact our work delivers. This website forms part of that strategy to get the message out there and raise the charities’ profile.

Ultimately, we want to make the people of Barnsley proud of the work Barnsley FC does within its community.

Finally, I want to acknowledge and applaud the hard work and professionalism of all our staff. It is a real pleasure to lead and work alongside you.
