I feel hugely privileged to head up Reds in the Community, a registered charity at Barnsley Football Club – a club that has deep roots within its local community. The club was founded in 1887 by Reverend Tiverton Preedy primarily as a way to use sport to engender moral values and forge closer contact with local people. This very ethos lives on today through the work of the charity.
Over twenty-four years, Barnsley Football Club’s community work has continued to broaden and reach out to greater numbers of people. Using the power of football and Barnsley Football Club to engage and improve the lives of local people remains our focus. It is estimated that over 1700 people each week are directly engaged in our activities across four key themes; Education, Health, Social Inclusion and Sports Participation. However, a huge amount remains to be achieved. We need to improve the promotion of our work to supporters, funders and participants. This website forms part of that strategy to get the message out there and raise the charities’ profile.
Finally, I want to acknowledge and applaud the hard work and professionalism of all our staff. It is a real pleasure to lead and work alongside you.
